THAI expecting loss
Thai Airways (THAI) is bracing itself for a second straight quarterly loss in 2008, but says the amount would be less than the 9.25 billion the national carrier lost in the preceding quarter, according to a Bangkok Post report.
THAI President, Apinan Sumanaseni, yesterday confirmed that the airline was still in the red but declined to specify figures. However Apinan did say that Q3 losses would be less than in Q2.
Despite the turmoils experienced in Bangkok over the summer, THAI’s Executive Vice-President, Pandit Chanapai, said the airline was able to fill 70% of its seats in Q3. The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation had reported that THAI’s Q2 loss was the worst since the Asian financial crisis of 1997.
