Thai Airways International’s (THAI) board of directors has discussed details of a new business restructuring plan, including the target to cut this year’s expenses by as much as THB11.84 billion (US$350 million) and purchase of new aircraft. The Nation reported THAI’s acting President, Narongsak Sangapong, as saying the plan would also include measures to raise revenue through the improvement of products and services for greater competitiveness. Business units will be restructured to be more profit-oriented, the report added.”If no more unfavourable factors emerge and the high season returns to be buoyant as ever, and the average load factor this year exceeds 75% and cashflow is THB30 billion or more, THAI will return to profit this year,” Narongsak was quoted saying.Meanwhile, European planemaker, Airbus, said it is happy with THAI, despite the carrier delaying the delivery of A380s to THAI.”There’s no problem. Thai Airways has been our customer for 32 years. The delayed delivery of A380s to Thai Airways is mutually agreed,” Kiran Rao, Airbus’ Executive Vice President for Sales, Marketing and Customers Affairs, was reported saying.
