Thai Airways International (THAI) has announced that it will move all domestic and international services to operate out of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport from 29 March.
From this date the remaining 23 domestic flights currently operating from Bangkok’s old Don Mueang Airport would be shifted to Suvarnabhumi, with the strategic objective of promoting the 2.5 year-old hub as the major THAI and Star Alliance hub of Thailand. The move will also enable THAI to develop its network of operations, improve handling efficiency and reduce operating costs, while at the same time increasing convenience for passengers and cargo shippers, not only for THAI flights, but also for those of other Star Alliance member airlines operating to and through Bangkok.
Following the move, connection times between domestic and international flights will be cut by 1-2 hours.
To handle the increased number of passengers at Suvarnabhumi, THAI will provide more check-in counters for domestic passengers, while extended its lounge areas by 300m
