A plan by Thailand’s Transport Ministry to allow the low-cost carrier Nok Air to take over some loss-making domestic routes from Thai Airways (THAI) has been approved by the two airlines.
The Bangkok Post reported that under the scheme, THAI will relinquish services to Phitsanulok, Mae Hong Son and Khon Kaen, in an effort to improve the national carrier’s balance sheet. Nok hopes to be able to run the routes more efficiently.
Nok Air, which operates solely on domestic Thai routes, is 39% owned by THAI.
