Thai Airways International (THAI) has posted its operating performance results for March 2010, with passenger demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), climbing 13.3% from the same period last year, and 5.1% from February 2010. Capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) for March 2010 was 10.3% higher than that of the same period in 2009 and 9.6% higher than February 2010. This pushed THAI’s March 2010 load factor to 78.9% – 2.1% higher than the same period last year. In combined results for the first quarter of 2010, THAI’s passenger demand rose 17.8% year-on-year, with a load factor of 81%. The combined effects of the ash cloud over Europe, and the political protests in Bangkok however, are likely to have affected the national carrier’s April performance.
