Thai Airways (THAI) is considering rerouting and adding medium- and long-haul services next year, The Nation has reported.
Among the present long-haul routes being evaluated are those from Bangkok and Johannesburg and Auckland. THAI may stop its Johannesburg services and revise its Auckland route. A final decision however, would not be made until the airline’s next board meeting on 14 January, the report said.
“The company has revised its business and marketing plan for next year due to the worldwide economic slowdown and the closure of two airports recently,” Pandit Chanaphai, Executive Vice President for THAI’s Commercial Department, was reported saying.
He added that the company would be widening its network and increase frequencies in Asia, particularly to China, India and the Middle East. Additionally, Pandit said the airline also planned to operate more six-hour combined destinations such as Bangkok-Manila-Seoul, Bangkok-Shanghai-Japan, and Bangkok-Taipei-Japan. The airline already operates Bangkok-Manila-Japan.
Pandit said the company expected average load factors of 70% this year, 3% below target. The airline has projected a 74% load factor in 2009.
