An eco-resort in eastern Thailand celebrated the recent festive season with a novel environmentally-friendly Christmas tree, created from rice straw.
Following the autumn rice harvest, the Faasai Resort & Spa in the coastal province of Chanthaburi kept the leftover rice straw from its organic farm and used it to create a Christmas tree.
The resort’s owner, Bronwen Evans, said the tree was popular with the resort’s younger guests and resident cats, who used it as place to hide, away from the Christmas crowds!
And the rice Christmas tree appears to be the organic gift that keeps giving; staff at the Faasai Resort have now dismantled the tree and fed it to the farm’s cows.
Last Christmas was the third year in a row the Faasai Resort has made its rice straw Christmas tree.
