THAI Airways has remained confident it will add an Airbus A380 onto flights between London Heathrow and Bangkok despite previously having delays.
Krittaphon Chantalitanon, VP aviation services support department told Travel Daily he hopes the aircraft will be operating on the route from the end of the first six months of 2015, adding that the A380 was right for the route and not the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as the former has more seats.
The service was initially due to launch next year and was delayed until October 2014 due to ‘technical reasons’, but has now been pushed into 2015.
Recently the carrier moved into Heathrow’s new Terminal 2.
“Terminal 2 is a smoother experience and more spacious; we’ve had great feedback from our customers about the new terminal. We had operated from Terminal 3 for 40 years so it was an occasion for us to make this move,” he said.
Despite political unrest in Thailand towards the end of 2013 and into this year Chantalitanon said there has been strong support from the trade and fam trips have been held regularly to show that Thailand is open as usual.
Around 70% of its traffic are those staying in Bangkok, while the rest connect onto other resorts and cities in Thailand or further to Australia.
Chantalitanon hinted that further growth could come from Europe next year with the addition of a new route, but it is currently unknown which one this will be.
Its route expansion recently has been closer to home with a new route to Luang Prabang in Laos, which commenced on 26 October.
