The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has said it aims to attract 265,600 Indonesian tourists this year by promoting Thailand as a heath tourism hub, the Bangkok Post has reported.
According to Porntip Amkornpan, Director of the TAT’s Singapore office, the most popular healthcare services among Indonesians include laser eye treatment, plastic surgery, dental care and check-ups.
Meanwhile Surapong Ambhanwong, Chief Medical and International Business Officer at Bangkok’s Phyathai Hospital, said that international health care tourism to Thailand has been increasing continuously. Surapong said he expects that the number of international health tourists will increase to nearly 1.7 million this year, from 1.4 million in 2007, with 300,000 coming from Asia, 258,000 from Europe, 152,000 from the Middle East and the rest from other markets.
Within the ASEAN region, the top four source markets for health tourists to Thailand are currently Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines and Indonesian.
The TAT on Friday launched a new promotion, in association with the Phyathai Hospital and Fly Free for Health. Organisers are inviting Indonesian celebrities to combine the healthcare services of Phyathai with shopping and sightseeing trips.
