Thailand introduces fish-skin bikinis
Made out of tilapia skin, it’s waterproof and costs less than US$80.
Tilapia fish skin is normally sold for a few cents as a fried snack, but a few years ago its skin became well known in the leather market for its durability.
The Investor’s Business Daily said a Thai leather vendor made a bikini from pieces of 15 fish stitched together.
The bikini was launched at a fashion show, and the demand for tilapia skin has grown and its use has been expanded for handbags and shoes as well.
