The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is planning to launch its 2015 tourism campaign in style this month, with a major parade through the streets of Bangkok.
The new ‘Discover Thainess’ is designed to showcase Thai culture, and it will kick off on 14 January 2015 with a major event in front of the Siam Discovery Centre in central Bangkok. Among the planned activities include a parade from the National Stadium to Lumpini Park.
“We would like to invite all tourists and tourism industry stakeholders as well as members of the public to take part in the range of extravagant celebrations marking the launch of the ‘2015 Discover Thainess’ campaign,” said TAT governor Thawatchai Arunyik.
“We have scheduled a host of events that are specially designed to showcase ‘Thainess’, or the distinct character of the Thai people and our unique culture.”
According to the TAT, the 2015 Discover Thainess campaign incorporates the Thai government’s “12 national core values”, including the “promotion and preservation of Thai traditions and culture” and the “hospitable nature of the Thai people”.
Thailand is expecting its international visitor arrivals to rebound in 2015. The TAT is targeting 28 million overseas visitors this year, up 13% compared to 2014, and a 16% rise in tourism revenues, to THB1.35 trillion (US$40.9 billion).
