Thailand seeks funds for tourism projects
Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Ministry intends to ask for Bt1.2 billion (US$38 million) from the government’s budget to build facilities in five tourism projects, The Bangkok Post reported.
The five projects include the improvement of facilities for the northern cultural route; an eco-tourism route in the central area; a world heritage route in Sukhothai; a ”Royal Coast” development, (formerly ”Thailand Riviera”, for provinces bordering the Gulf of Thailand) and improved facilities in border provinces of the Greater Mekong subregion.
The report said the five projects are part of a five-year tourism development plan. This year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand projects 15.7 million foreign visitors, and 83 million trips by domestic tourists.
The government’s investment would go mainly towards infrastructure development such as roads, piers and an airport, the report said.
