The number of Indian visitors to Thailand is set to exceed the one million mark this year.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), 958,921 Indians travelled to Thailand in the first 11 months of 2013, up 4.1% year-on-year. And the tourism board is now confident that the full-year figure will exceed the record total of 1,015,865 Indian arrivals to Thailand, registered in 2012.
Runjuan Tongrut, director of the TAT’s New Delhi Office, said Indian travellers have not been put off by the recent protests in Bangkok.
“Indian travellers are used to political demonstrations that come with living in a vibrant democracy,” Ms Runjuan said. “By and large, Indian visitors are maintaining their travel plans, especially those heading for festive season celebrations.”
The TAT also said that it expects “numerous” Indian weddings to be held in Thailand in the coming months, in destinations including Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Hua Hin, Krabi, Koh Samui, Khao Lak, Rayong, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
