A delegation led by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau is in India now to woo India’s MICE sector.
The Bangkok Post said the delegation will meet some 200-300 Indian companies, travel agents, trade associations, professional exhibition and convention organisers during the four-day road show.
The Thailand team comprises the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Department for Export Promotion, the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association and the Trade Exhibition Association of Thailand.
According to Natwut Amornvivat, the TCEB president, India’s MICE delegates to Thailand numbered over 33,000 in 2006 and is growing at 6% a year.
According to TAT statistics, 506,237 Indians visited Thailand last year, up 17% over a year earlier.
The report said TCEB plans to organise eight trade shows and 11 roadshows to attract more MICE visitors. The targets are Copenhagen and Stockholm, Moscow, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei, New Delhi, Bangalore, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Seoul.
Major events in Thailand this year include ITU Telecom Asia 2008 and the 2008 Lions Clubs International Convention.
