Air traffic figures in July for Thailand’s six main airports, including Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, showed the smallest decline so far this year, the Bangkok Post has reported airport operator, Airports of Thailand (AoT) as saying. Passenger throughflow declined 6.3% year-on-year to 4.33 million, while flight movements contracted 1.9% to 29,449. The figures represented a decided improvement from the previous six months of the year, as global economic woes eased and Thailand’s political situation returned to a state or near normality. For the first seven months of this year, passenger traffic declined 14.5% year-on-year to 29.91 million, while flight movements declined 12.3% to 205,642.
International passenger traffic however, continued to see a double-digit decline in July, contributing to a sharp 17.5% decline in the first seven months of the year. Domestic passenger traffic rose for the first time this year in July with a 5.9% growth. Year-to-date figures however, still see a 9.3% year-on-year decline in domestic demand.
The AoT records the combined figures from its six Thai airports; Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang (Bangkok), Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Had Yai.
