The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has launched the 3rd Qatar Summer Festival, which promises a line-up of live performances, shopping promotions and special hotel rates until 31 August.
The annual event is set to “re-energise the hospitality and retail sectors” in Qatar with the return of Entertainment City, which this year will be held at the newly-opened Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC), said the QT
“We are pleased to have the popular Entertainment City returning this year with a range of new and exciting gaming and entertainment options for children and adults alike,” QTA’s chief marketing and promotion officer Rashed AlQurese told reporters at a press conference to announce the festival. “This year’s will be the largest yet, covering a space of 29,000 metres squared.”
Entertainment City will embrace a diversity of zones to entertain visitors, including a ‘Colour Your Summer’ zone, tech games, arcades, skill games, thrill rides, inflatable games and play areas, video games, and GoKarting.
The city will also host a number of live shows and performances for visitors to enjoy on a dedicated stage while food outlets will be available at the venue. It will be open from 1pm to 11pm daily except Friday, when it will welcome visitors until midnight.
Based on some of the suggestions of tourists and residents, QTA has reduced the price of tickets this year. While QAR 15 will be charged for the entry, tickets for games start from QAR 5, and QAR 120 (all rides) for VIPs.
“This year we took our visitor-centric approach one step further,” continued AlQurese. “As part of our planning process, we held a virtual forum on social media platforms, inviting tourists and residents to post their thoughts on ways to enhance the festival. We have considered this input and ways to incorporate it into the Festival, to ensure it reflects our target audience’s needs and wishes.”
As one of QTA’s major events, QSF aims to showcase Qatar’s offering as a family destination. Eight malls in the country, as well as The Pearl-Qatar, will offer sales promotions with a chance for shoppers to win major prizes.
A three-day Doha Comedy Festival will also be held from 18 to 20 August at Qatar National Convention Center, featuring 18 Arab stand-up comedians and on 12 August, Al Gharrafa Sports Club will be the venue for ‘Street Madness’ during which time short football matches led by social media influencers and performances by artistes and comedians will be staged. A spectacular fireworks display on the Corniche will mark the conclusion of the festival on 31 August.
