Thomas Cook India has announced plans to focus on the student travel market.
Through its new ‘Travel Quest Study Tours’, the company is planning to offer a range of educational tours for students, to both domestic and international destinations.
“With data… revealing that in 2012 there were over 13.6 lakh (13.6 million) schools in the country with enrolment increasing by 13% and approximately US$70 billion being spent on private education, the business potential of the student market in India is significant and increasing rapidly,” Thomas Cook said on a statement.
It added that India is expected to become the world’s youngest country, in terms of average age, by 2020, and that this young demographic “seeks exposure to a global curriculum”.
As a result, Thomas Cook India has started partnering with Indian schools to offer education travel for students. It has already confirmed five student tours to destinations including Singapore and Netherlands.
“Today, experiential learning is clearly a vital ingredient for India’s young minds and travel is indeed the best teacher,” said Madhavan Menon, managing director of Thomas Cook India.
“Our strategic business intent is clear: to address the business opportunity posed by the growing student market in the absence of organised players in the market. Our aim is to bring progressive academic curriculums to life, with a hands-on approach to learning, allowing students to engage in a healthy mix of fun and relevant education.”
Thomas Cook said its Travel Quest Study Tours would be conducted by “experienced professionals across the educational and travel domain[s]”.
