More than 100 cabins have been booked for a cruise that is to follow the Titanic’s fateful route to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship.
According to a report in The Telegraph, bookings for the cruise opened on Wednesday - exactly 97 years after the Titanic was lost - with the departure date set for early April in 2012.
The Balmoral, operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, whose parent company Harland and Wolff built the Titanic, will carry 1,309 passengers - the same number that sailed on the maiden voyage - and follow the same course, leaving Southampton before docking at the Irish port of Cobh, where the Titanic made its final call on 11 April, 1912.
On April 14, it will arrive at the spot where the vessel went down, with the loss of more than 1,500 lives. A memorial service will be held between 11.40pm - when the ship hit the iceberg - and 2.20am, on 15 April, the moment it sank.
After the service the cruise continues to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where excursions include a visit to the Fairview Lawn Cemetery where 121 Titanic victims are buried, before finally arriving in New York.
