Tigerair Australia has tightened up its carry-on baggage rules.
The new measures, which come into effect on 18 September 2014, will see airport staff strictly enforce Tigerair’s baggage policy, which allows passengers to carry a maximum of two bags free of charge provided they do not exceed specific measurements or a total combined weight of 10kg per person.
The low-cost carrier said the move followed “eight months of departure gate monitoring”, including warnings for passengers who exceed carry-on baggage restrictions. But from Thursday, passengers who exceed the baggage allowance will incur penalty charges.
“The majority of people understand and support these requirements as there is only a finite amount of overhead locker space available,” said Adam Rowe, commercial director at Tigerair Australia.
“From now on we are simply asking all passengers to play by the rules as there will be increased monitoring and the risk of a penalty charge for those that ignore them.”
Over the coming week, the airline will notify passengers booked for future travel to remind them of the baggage policy.
