Timor, possibly a heaven

Its beaches, highlands and cultural mix, plus its closeness to Bali, Indonesia has all the makings of attracting tourists to the country.

 

The recent presidential and parliamentary elections are reported to have eased the political tension and helped restore stability in the country.

Ann Turner, vice president of the Tourism Association of East Timor, told The Age, developing the sector is a key driver for the young nation, since it could employ many people quickly and create careers.

“It (tourism) also tends to look to younger people for staff, exactly the people who need to be taken off the streets and given some meaning in life,” The Age also quoted Turner as saying.
