A pair of giant pandas will arrive at Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo in February, the Japan Times has reported. The bears, named Bili and Xiannu, will be loaned to the zoo for 10 years. The Tokyo government will pay US$950,000 per year for the pandas, with the money being used to fund panda research in China’s Sichuan province and preserve the species’ natural habitat. They will be the first pandas at Ueno Zoo since 2008.
