Tunisia has continued to see an increase in UK tourists flock to its resorts this summer after a damaging year in 2011.
Figures from its tourist board show the number of UK tourists is up 50.7% last month compared to July 2011, with more than 180,000 travelling to the country so far this year. Tourist numbers have gradually returned to those seen in 2010 before the Arab Spring impacted visitation last year.
Since its situation settled, product in the destination has been improved by airlines, hotels, attractions and promotions. Star Wars fans flocked to the film locations in the country this year to mark its 35th birthday, while Tunisair has added Manchester flights and launched a connecting flight to Djerba.
“It is wonderful to see so many people from the UK and Ireland travelling back to Tunisia. I only expect to see these figures increase as more visitors learn about our incredible country,” says Wahida Jaiet, UK & Ireland director for the TNTO.
