15 March 2010: The Northern Territory is now at the fingertips of Apple iPhone and iTouch users with the new iOutback NT iapp or online application.
Downloading the iOutbackNT iapp enables users to access images, videos, interactive maps and the latest information about the Northern Territory to help them plan their holiday and make the most of their stay.
Tourism NT Chief Executive Maree Tetlow said that iOutback NT is part of Tourism NT’s push to use mobile technology making it easier for people to find and access destination information about the Northern Territory’s attractions, so they can make better holiday choices.
“This announcement is significant for Tourism NT because the iPhone is fast becoming the mobile device of choice with increasing numbers of people accessing information online while they are on the move.
“The new iapp makes content about the NT more accessible and people are able to take advantage of ‘hot deals’, from accommodation to tour discounts.
“It lets us ‘share our story’ about all the stunning places to see and experience across the Northern Territory, from top to bottom and everything in-between,” she said.
“This innovative new ‘app’ allow visitors to get the best from their trip to the Northern Territory. Using their iPhones they can explore the vibrant tropical city of Darwin, national parks, and famous outback towns such as Alice Springs to make the most of their holiday,” she said.
“To help spread the appeal of iOutbackNT we have included a special feature. You can play your very own ‘didg’ by blowing into the phone’s voice piece. You can tap along with touch drums on screen, and alter the tempo and pitch by just tilting the phone. So even if you aren’t planning a visit soon you can still experience the NT,” Ms Tetlow said.
“People can tag or bookmark an activity they would like to do such as attractions, events and tours to help them plan their holiday itineraries.
“Users can also share information such as a tours or images with friends over Twitter, Facebook or email so this is a very extensive online planning tool,” she said.
Once the ‘app’ is downloaded it can be used even when people are not connected to the web, so in remote locations they can still locate information about local guides or tour packages.
OutbackNT iapp is now live and free to download from the Apple iTunes store.
