Tourism Minister Malarndirri McCarthy welcomed a new marketing campaign by AirAsia and Tourism NT to promote Darwin holidays.
Ms McCarthy said now AirAsia has commenced flights to Darwin they have launched a joint marketing campaign with Tourism NT targeting South East Asian travellers.
“More than 11,000 visitors to the Territory are from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia each year and this is a great opportunity to increase these numbers,” Ms McCarthy said.
“It is estimated the global reach of this campaign will extend beyond South East Asia and showcase the Territory to key markets in the United Kingdom and France too, especially since AirAsia operates flights from London and Paris to its base in Kuala Lumpur.
“A digital campaign will also feature on Facebook to AirAsia’s one million strong fans that are predominantly based in the South East Asian region,” Ms McCarthy said.
A dedicated Tourism NT Facebook tab and micro website, www.australiasoutback.com/airasia, have been created as part of the AirAsia campaign.
The Territory will also be featured in AirAsia’s in-flight magazine, Travel3sixty, which is read each month by more than two million international visitors flying on the carrier between Australia, Asia and Europe.
Print advertisements will also be published in the Bali Times to coincide with the campaign and capture the existing market of holiday-makers on the island.
“Tourism NT will continue to work with airlines to promote Darwin as an international aviation hub and the Top End as a destination in its own right, which is a key element of the Aviation Futures 2015 strategy,” Ms McCarthy said.
