Tourism NZ seals Qantas marketing tie-up
Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) and Qantas have announced a new marketing partnership aimed at boosting visitor arrivals into New Zealand on Qantas flights.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed by TNZ’s Chief Executive, Kevin Bowler, and Qantas’ Regional General Manager for New Zealand & Pacific Islands, Rohan Garnett, at the TRENZ 2012 travel trade event in Queenstown, involves a NZ$4 million (US$3.2 million) commitment split between the two parties from 1 July 2012 until 30 June 2014.
The money will be invested in partnership marketing campaigns in NZ’s key visitor source markets of Australia, the US, UK and Germany.
“Qantas has served New Zealand for over 50 years and we are committed to bringing international visitors here through our extensive global, Australian and trans-Tasman network,” Garnett commented. “We are delighted to be partnering with TNZ to promote the world-class tourism experiences on offer in this country. By working together we hope to make a compelling case for visitors in key markets to visit NZ flying with Qantas.”
TNZ’s Bowler said that as Australia remains New Zealand’s largest source of visitor arrivals, the agreement will focus on the “core trans-Tasman market”. But other Qantas destinations will also be targeted.
“Qantas remains a significant airline out of the US, Germany and Europe and we expect this partnership to help tackle some of the challenges we face in those markets with the high New Zealand dollar and global financial crisis,” Bowler said.
Cooperative activities will include advertising and promotional campaigns, television promotions, and an online presence and profile through each party’s websites.
