Travel agents concerned about sending their clients to Thailand during the current period of unrest are being told to refer to the Tourism Thailand update website for the latest travel information.
Found at http://www.tourismthailand.org/thailandtourismupdate/, the site is where the latest developments regarding the situation in Bangkok are clearly reported, with special references for visitors on what areas in Bangkok to avoid and information regarding various hot lines and call centres should further information or assistance be required, a spokesperson for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) told TDME.
“At the same time, the travel trade is being informed that for all other areas of Thailand not included in the advisories such as the popular holiday destinations of Phuket, Koh Samui and many other beach destinations in the south, life is as it always has been with no change,” said the spokesperson.
“Additionally, for tourists visiting the Kingdom, it is stressed that foreigners have not been targeted in the on-going political conflict. However, visitors and tourists are advised to be vigilant, follow news developments, exercise extra caution and avoid areas near the UDD rally site and areas where demonstrators gather.”
The Tourism Thailand update website also includes a long list of further helplines.
In addition, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 24-hour operation centre provides further information: +662-575-1023, +662-981-7225, +66-88-022-1540 or +66-88-022-1541.
