Webcams and the latest multimedia tools will give Cairns & Great Barrier Reef live global exposure when the region’s new destination website is launched today (Thursday November 12).
Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chief Executive Officer Rob Giason said www.cairnsgreatbarrierreef.org.au would provide the consumer with the latest technology to research a holiday in the region and book directly online with members or the region’s Visitor Information Centres.
“We have integrated our members’ product information with quality online product videos, consumer feedback and real time visuals of our sub-regions using webcams and live weather information to provide an extensive one-stop research and booking site for business and leisure travellers,” he said.
“What makes www.cairnsgreatbarrierreef.org.au different is it contains consumer information with no booking engines, instead it directs them to the specials and packages that our trade industry will have.
“The website will be managed by TTNQ and our members, ensuring it is a centralised marketing tool that not only promotes members, but funnels consumers directly to them, assisting in reducing the cost of sale and providing a more efficient and dynamic experience to consumers.
“We live in a new generation where traditional destination marketing has been turned on its head and the internet is becoming the most powerful tool informing the independent visitor of the advantages that we as a destination have for them to spend their disposable income.
“More than 80 per cent of all visitors are planning their holidays using the web, so we have been fortunate through the additional funding supplied from the Federal Government’s $4 million Tropical North Queensland Assistance Package to be able to use a portion of it to develop an online tool to benefit our destination.”
Mr Giason said it was important to focus on key names to draw customers immediately into the destination site, so high-value domain names including capeyork.org.au, daintree.org.au, kuranda.org.au, missionbeach.org.au and cairnsbeaches.org.au would be launched soon.
“Work is continuing on the website with some of the latest web applications to beadded including mobile phone compatibility to put important information in the hands of tourists while they were travelling,” he said.
