TUI Travel chief executive Peter Long has met with Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller to mark the opening of the company’s new resort and its footprint on the island.
During the visit Long boasted the opening of the new Sensatori resort on the island, which is owned by Karisma Hotels & Resorts, and discussed how Thomson now operates more flights to Jamaica than other European carriers.
This summer the company will grow flight capacity to the island by 40% and increase seats by 140% in the winter.
One of its cruise ships, the Thomson Dream, will also be based in Jamaica from December, where it will homeport in Montego Bay for the winter season.
“I am delighted to be back in Jamaica again. We have very strong relationships with the government and the tourism board here, and it has been a pleasure to work with them over recent years. We are fully committed to supporting the development of travel and tourism in Jamaica; it is a beautiful destination with fantastic surroundings not to mention a rich and vibrant culture. For TUI Travel, it is a tourism hotspot of the future,” said Long.
Thomson’s new Sensatori resort is the company’s sixth in the brand. It is set on the Negril beach with four restaurants; swim-up rooms and a reggae lounge.
“We are delighted to open our sixth Sensatori Resort in Jamaica in partnership with Karisma. This will be the second Sensatori Resort being operated by Karisma and we are looking forward to working with the hotelier to ensure this one is as successful as Sensatori Mexico. It has been our strategy for a number of years to provide our customers with unique holiday experiences they can’t buy elsewhere. Our Sensatori concept has been an important part of this strategy, offering customers a luxurious holiday experience designed for them. Jamaica is a key destination for Thomson,” said David Burling, managing director TUI UK & Ireland.
