Turkish Airlines has reiterated its policy on independent youth travel after three British girls boarded a Turkish Airlines flight from London to Istanbul on 17 February, before travelling to Syria to join the Islamic State campaign.

In a statement released last week, the airline said: “Turkish Airlines allows young passengers between the ages of 12 and 18 to travel unaccompanied in compliance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) Recommended Practice. Turkish Airlines procedures are fully compliant with international aviation industry standards, including those required under UK law in particular those relating to aviation security.”

The airline has offered no further comment on the issue, but states that it is working with various international and sovereign authorities to support the investigation into the girls’ movements.
