Typhoon Mitag slams Philippines
Rescuers are on full alert after Typhoon Mitag slammed into the northern Philippines, killing at least seven and forcing thousands from their homes, reports said.
Mitag made landfall in the northern province of Isabela on the main island of Luzon late yesterday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, knocking out power lines and causing widespread flooding, officials were quoted saying by ChannelNews Asia.
The Philippines is expected to have bad weather for the entire week, with tropical storm Hagibis expected to re-enter the country to merge with a third storm that is bearing down on the eastern seaboard, the state weather agency was quoted saying.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque placed all government hospitals and personnel on a 24-hour standby with the death toll likely to rise, the report said.
