UK, US top Indian e-visa figures

The UK and US accounted for almost 40% of the total number of e-tourist visas issued at Indian airports in October 2015.
According to the latest data from India’s Ministry of Tourism, a total of 56,477 people visited India on e-tourist visas last month, marking a 1,988% jump from October 2014, although the scheme has been significantly expanded in the last 12 months.
British tourists accounted for 22.8% of the total e-tourist visas issued, ahead of the US (16.7%), Germany (7.0%), Australia (5.5%), Canada (4.4%), Russia (4.0%) and China (2.9%).
And Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport remains the top entry point for tourists on e-visas. Fifty one percent of e-visas issued in October were processed at Delhi airport, ahead of Mumbai airport (20.5%), Bengaluru airport (5.9%), Chennai airport (5.6%) and Kochi airport (3.7%).
India now offers e-tourist visas to the citizens of 113 countries, arriving at 16 airports. The country issued a total of 258,182 visas in the first 10 months of the year – 4.1% of India’s total visitor arrivals during this period.
