Vietnam will submit a bid to UNESCO to have the remains of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel declared a World Heritage site, the Thanh Nien News has reported. Authorities want the Hanoi attraction listed before capital celebrates it 1,000th birthday in 2010.
Japanese and French archaeologists so far unearthed thousands of artefacts, including terracotta figures of dragons and phoenix heads, ceramics, cannons and swords, at the 1,300-year old site.
