UNESCO to visit Malaysian archaeological site

A UNESCO team will visit an archaeological site in the Malaysian peninsula state of Perak, following the discovery of evidence of ancient humans in the area. Local media reported that the site contains remains which may date back 1.83 million years, and that the UNESCO visit will form part of the Lenggong site’s application for World Heritage site status. The Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Centre for Global Archaeological Research Malaysia said the discovery could change previous theories on human evolution.
“[The relics at Lenggong] may defy the earlier prehistory migratory theory that suggested that the movement out of Africa was only limited to Europe, India and China,” the New Straits Times reported the Centre’s Director, Professor Mokhtar Saidin, as saying
