United-Continental Holdings experienced a fall in trans-Pacific passenger traffic in September 2011. The recently-merged airline carried 2.65 million passengers across the Pacific last month – 3.6% fewer than in September 2010. The airline added 1.5% extra capacity on Pacific routes in September 2011, causing average load factors to drop 4.2 percentage points to 80.8%.
The decline follows a trend of falling load factors over the Pacific; last month Delta Air Lines and American Airlines posted load factor declines of 6.1 and 4.9 points respectively.
