The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all but essential travel to Bangkok and the 26flood affected provinces as the city braces for more water this weekend.
While the flood situation in Bangkok does appear to be worsening yet, Travel Daily’s Bangkok office can confirm that none of the main business and tourist areas have been affected. The Sukhumvit, Silom and Sathorn Road areas of the city remain dry, and while river levels are now very high, all major hotels on the ChaoPraya Riverare open for business.
Bangkok’s second airport, Don Mueang, has been closed due to flooding, and the popular Chatuchak Market will not open this weekend. Bangkok’s main airport Suvarnabhumi remains open and flight schedules are unaffected.
However, a large wave of water is expected to reach Bangkok in the next few days which is likely to affect transport and attractions, as well as potentially cut of electricity and water supplies.
Elsewhere in Thailand, the vast majority of key tourist destinations, such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabiand Chiang Mai, remain unaffected. The UNESCO World Heritage city of Ayutthaya however, has been submerged by flood water, and train services between Bangkok northern destinations are suspended due to flooded tracks.
