US-based airline union members will take part in a protest at Los Angeles and Dallas-Fort Worth airports today, in support of Qantas employees. The Teamsters’ Union said it supported Australia’s Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) in its battle against Qantas management.
“Qantas airline workers around the world dedicate their lives to helping their company grow,” said Teamsters’ General President, Jim Hoffa. “We will continue to stand up and fight for our brothers and sisters Down Under until they win a contract that fairly rewards them for the hard work they do to make their employer so successful.”
The TWU, along with two other unions, is taking part in 21 days of mediated negotiations with Qantas, during which time it is not permitted to take an industrial action. It has since lodged an appeal against the strike ban however, leading to the possibility that industrial action will take place in the lead up to Christmas.
