Vietnam Airlines has celebrated the fifth anniversary of its inaugural flight from Vietnam to London, which arrived on 9 December 2011.
On Wednesday evening, Vietnam Airlines UK hosted an event at London’s renowned Viet Grill restaurant to mark the occasion and to thank travel agents, tour operators and industry friends for their continued support.
Agents and industry supporters were treated to a convivial evening of traditional Vietnamese food, live music and Saigon beer.
After a ceremonial cake-cutting, a prize draw gave guests a chance to win one of several prize trips to Vietnam, courtesy of Vietnam Airlines, Vinpearl, Accor, Fusion Mai and Mia Resort Nha Trang. Agents from Cox & Kings, Experience Travel Group and Lastminute.com were among the lucky winners.
The launch of nonstop services to the UK marked the beginning of a period of rapid development for Vietnam Airlines, with the flag carrier achieving five key milestones over the course of the past five transformative years:
- 9 December 2011: Vietnam Airlines’ first Boeing 777 arrives at Gatwick
- 31 March 2015: Vietnam Airlines moves to Heathrow Terminal 4
- 1 September 2015: first Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner arrives at Heathrow
- 23 June 2016: daily nonstop services between Heathrow and Vietnam commence
- 12 July 2016: Vietnam Airlines achieves Skytrax 4-star rating
“Vietnam Airlines has come a long way since launching our UK route five years ago. We are very proud to have established a strong daily connection between the important UK market and Vietnam, and to be able to offer our customers Skytrax four star-rated services on the latest next-generation Dreamliner aircraft, nonstop from Heathrow,” said Le Thanh Dzung, general manager UK & Ireland, Vietnam Airlines.
“We are also very grateful to our partners and friends in the UK travel industry, whose support over the last five years has made this tremendous progress possible.”
Return fares from Heathrow to Ho Chi Minh City currently start from £453 per person, inclusive of taxes.
