Vietnam Airlines joins SkyTeam

Vietnam Airlines has joined the SkyTeam as the alliance’s first Southeast Asia member. Following a service held on 10 June, the airline unveiled its first aircraft in SkyTeam livery to commemorate the membership. “The joining reaffirms Vietnam Airlines’ position as a major carrier in the Southeast Asian region as well as a strategic partner of SkyTeam,” said Vietnam Airlines President and CEO Dr. Pham Ngoc Minh. “Our cooperation will help further develop SkyTeam and its member airlines, generating valuable benefits for our passengers and making greater contributions to the international economic integration of Vietnam.” With the new addition, SkyTeam now carriers now offer over 13,000 flights for more than 390 million travellers worldwide. Vietnam Airlines serves the SkyTeam hubs in Paris, Moscow, Beijing, Guangzhou, Seoul, Busan and Tokyo. SkyTeam Governing Board Chairman Leo M. Van Wijk said the new member marked an ‘important step’ in its growth plans. “”Asia is a very important and strategic growth market for SkyTeam and we well are on track to strengthen our network offering in this part of the world,” he added.
