Visitor arrivals to Vietnam increased in July 2015, for the first time in 14 months.
The country has suffered from a sharp decline in visitor numbers since mid-2014, partially due to heightened tensions with China – Vietnam’s biggest source market.
But according to the latest data from the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT), inbound numbers rebounded last month as the country welcomed 593,566 overseas visitors – up 5.1% year-on-year. It should be noted however, that arrivals had already started to fall in the comparative month last year.
Arrivals from mainland China increased 10.7% year-on-year to 136,589, while several other key source markets also registered double-digit growth, including South Korea (+29.9% to 73,108), Taiwan (+19.9% to 46,083), the US (+16.3% to 45,229) and Japan (+12.4% to 50,221).
Arrivals from Russia, Vietnam’s largest European market, declined 4.5% to 21,688.
For the first seven months of 2015, Vietnam has now welcomed a total of 4.4 million international visitors, down 9.4% compared to the same period in 2014.
