Vietnam discovers new mangrove species

A recent survey of mangrove forest on Vietnam’s Con Dao Island has unearthed three species of tree previously unknown to exist in the country, VietnamNet Bridge has reported. According to Dr. Vien Ngoc Nam from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, the three new species of mangrove trees are: Xylocarpus rumphii, Bruguiera hainessii, and Pemphis acidula, the last on which is facing global extinction to its use as a bonsai tree.
