Vietnam tourism falls sharply

In 2007, Vietnam received more than 4million foreign visitors, an increase of 19% over the previous year.It planned for 5 million foreign arrivals this year, but by the end ofNovember only 3.8 million had arrived, a DPA report said.
Arrivals fell dramatically from 411,000 inApril to 279,000 in November. November’s decline was 22% year-on-year.
“We can’t achieve the target we set at thebeginning of the year in the context of the global economic crisis,” Vietnam’s Ministerof Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Tuan Anh, was quoted saying in thereport.
Saigon Tourist, one of Vietnam’slargest travel companies, said the number of foreign visitors had fallen about20% year-on-year.
