Vietnam wetlands given UNESCO status

UNESCO has awarded a World Biosphere Reserve certificate to a coastal wetland zone in Vietnam’s Red River Delta, Thanh Nien News has reported. The zone provides a sanctuary to some 200 bird species, including many endangered species. It also provides shelter for up to 500 species of sealife in its thousands of hectares of mangrove forest and wetlands.
