Viking River Cruises last week announced it had placed an order for two further Viking Longships for delivery in 2013.
This brings the number of Longships to be launched next year to eight- and a total of 14 new Viking Longships over a two year period. The two latest additions will be named Viking Jarl and Viking Alta and will both have 95 staterooms.
“As the fastest-growing segment of travel, river cruising is inspiring more vacations plans than ever before,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking River Cruises. “We are very pleased by the response we have seen to our new Viking Longships, and we are continuing our expansion to meet than demand”.
Accommodating 190 passengers, the ships are slated to sail four of Viking’s most popular European itineraries. These are the 10-day Tulips & Windmills; eight-day Romantic Danube; 15-day Grand European Tour and eight-day Danube Waltz.
Each Viking Longship in 2013 offers two 445-square-foot explorer suites with separate living room/bedroom and wrap-around veranda, seven two-room veranda suites with a full-size balcony adjacent to the living room and a French balcony with the bedroom, 39 veranda staterooms and 22 French balcony staterooms. An all-weather indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace with retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors for al fresco dining is another feature.
