Villagers petition to build in Angkor temple park

Representatives of more than 3,000 families in Siem Reap province have travelled to the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, to petition the government to allow them to build new houses within the Angkor temple park, the Phnom Penh Post has reported. The Apsara Authority, which maintains the UNESCO World Heritage site, has prevented villages in Angkor Thom district from constructing new houses in the park, and argues that increased building would “severely impact the beauty” of the complex.
