A Virgin Australia passenger plane was involved in a near miss with a private jet en route from Brisbane to Sydney recently. The two aircraft broke separation standards (305m vertical, 9km horizontal) near Gold Coast, Australia, last Saturday after the Gulfstream jet was cleared to descend to the same level as the Virgin Boeing 737 on a crossing track. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has not yet published details on how close the airliners actually came to a collision or if evasive manoeuvres were required. According to the Courier Mail, Air Traffic Control was also blamed for another near miss over the Gold Coast in July.
