VisitScotland is leading a special mission to Tenerife this week in a bid to enhance the reputation of Scotland as a leading golf tourism destination.
The national tourism organisation has taken 19 Scottish golf businesses to the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the world’s premier trade event for the sport.
Team Scotland is attending the event in Tenerife from 5-8 October with partners representing a wide spectrum of the golf tourism industry including The Gleneagles Hotel, host venue of last years’ memorable Ryder Cup; Ayrshire Golf Scotland, host region of The Open in 2016 and Highland Golf Links, which includes Castle Stuart, host venue of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2016.
The VisitScotland stand is displaying the world-famous Claret Jug, the trophy awarded to the winner of The Open Championship, which will be held at Royal Troon in 2016 and Carnoustie in 2018.
Over 600 golf tourism suppliers and around 350 pre-qualified buyers are attending IGTM from approximately 65 countries.
Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland said: “We are delighted to once again have such a strong Scottish presence at IGTM. This is an outstanding opportunity to drive the message to buyers around the world that Scotland is the Home of Golf and the world’s best golf tourism destination.”
