W Bangkok has opened a new F&B and events venue, located in a complex of heritage buildings next to the hotel.
The House on Sathorn comprises four classical buildings which date back to 1889. The buildings were retained by W Bangkok when the hotel was built, and have now been extensively restored to create the new entertainment complex.
Now fully open, the House complex includes new F&B concepts, The Dining Room and The Bar, plus The Courtyard – an al fresco dining area that will also serve afternoon tea. Upstairs, a new club lounge will offer live music and DJs.
The House on Sathorn also offers seven function spaces, including four “hospitality suites” for private dinners. The largest of these spaces, the 99m² Conservatory, features an outdoor area capable of hosting events of up to 120 people. Other spaces, ranging from 30 to 45m², can be configured for smaller functions such as private parties, dinners and product launches.
The interiors of the buildings have been decorated with contemporary Thai artworks, including tapestries, paintings, photography and sculptures.
“We are so thrilled with the debut of The House on Sathorn, a house whose colourful appearance is matched with its indisputable legacy,” said Tina Liu, general manager of the W Bangkok. “The House has been re-imagined as a… multi-venue complex, offering artisanal Asian-inspired cuisine, creative cocktails and spectacular restored artwork.”
Built during the reign of King Rama V, The House was originally the home of local businessman Luang Sathorn Rajayutka, who created the Sathorn Canal. In the early 1920s, the site was converted into the majestic Hotel Royal, and then from 1948 to 1999 it served as the Russian Embassy.
