Waiting times at Australian airports will rise due to layoffs in the Customs department. Budget cuts over the next four years are forcing agencies to dissolve 76 frontline processing positions before Christmas. Justin Wastnage, National Manager of Aviation at the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) warned that waiting times could rise to almost one hour in peak periods at the country’s major airports including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Wastnage fears this will create a bad impression for tourists arriving from abroad. “It will create the perception of Australia as somewhere that’s difficult to get to. When visitors get back home they’ll say it was a nightmare to get into the country
