Wales has reported a £2.4 million economic benefit from cruise calls in 2013, with the number expected to rise this year due to more ships calling at its ports.
Cruise calls have been up 34% in the last two years with another 10% boost expected for 2015.
More than 30 cruise calls will be made in 2015 from UK, German, North American and French cruise lines including Celebrity Silhouette and ships under Regent Seven Seas and Oceania.
US operator Travel Dynamics will send its Corinthian ship to Wales, while Ponant Cruises and All Leisure Group’s three cruise brands will all have ships visiting the country.
Ships call in to Holyhead, Newport, Cardiff, Swansea, Milford Haven and Pembroke.
“This is an incredibly important development in Wales’ cruise agenda and operators are beginning to realise how much we can offer cruise passengers,” said Suzanne Thomas, cruise manager Wales. “This year we have already welcomed over 20,000 cruise passengers to Wales and we have initiated special workshops and training to ensure that we can deliver new and exciting products for cruise passengers, as well as providing the cruise lines themselves with the facilities they need.”
