Australian travellers are washing aside any negative thoughts of the economy and taking to the traditional beach holiday in waves according to one of Australia’s largest leisure accommodation providers, Mantra Group.
A vibrant events calendar, improved infrastructure such as the Tugun Bypass on the Gold Coast, creative and effective tourism campaigns and highly competitive room rates had contributed to one of the strongest Septembers on record for the group, for leisure bookings.
The Gold and Tweed Coasts; Tropical North Queensland and the Sunshine Coast continued to be amongst the highest selling destinations as families and couples chased fun in the sun and the abundance of attractions and activities on offer, with most opting for self-contained accommodation where they can keep the costs even lower.
Kingscliff on the Tweed Coast where Mantra Group operates Mantra on Salt Beach and Peppers Salt Resort & Spa, is a prime example of an area in demand.
Mantra Group Director of Marketing Ken Minnikin said Mantra on Salt Beach was likely to put up its first “full house” sign for the season this weekend as school holiday bookings continue to flood in.
The resort will be sitting at an occupancy of around 80 to 85 percent during the holidays with neighbouring Peppers Salt Resort & Spa also drawing very high visitor numbers with forward bookings of 80 percent plus occupancy levels.
Recent high profile events for the Gold Coast and Tweed areas including the World Triathlon Championships and the World Rally Championships provided a tremendous kick-start to the September holiday period, Mr East said.
Upcoming events such as the Coolangatta Gold on October 18, Super GP from October 22-25 and Broadbeach World Masters Golf from October 25 to November 1 would continue to fuel interest outside the already busy Queensland and NSW school holidays running from September 19 to October 18.
